I'm not sure about this, but I think that Yahoo works like Google. They send a spider (little robots that surf the internet), who looks into the code of your blog. It can rate your blogs structure, if you are using h1,h2.. tags, meta descriptions, bold tags.. the rating is higher so the positioning better. The visitors lift you up too, similar to RSS feed. Other blogs sharing your links are like gold in blogging. Maybe having a Yahoo account works too for Yahoo News, but I am not sure about that.
